Pre-employment background investigation.

Background investigations used to be seen as a luxury. Today they are a necessity. Working with our verification partner, we run pre-employment checks that report on:

Identity

Verify a job applicant's identity with a thorough pre-employment screening check.

Criminal history

Know exactly who you're hiring, including any past criminal record.

Employment history

Current and past employment, performance, salary history, reference letters, attendance, reason for leaving and whether they left on good terms.

Education & licences

Verify the education, qualifications, licences and industry certifications the applicant claims.

Wider background

Driving records, service records, credit history and more, where relevant to the role.

The right decision

Anticipate negative consequences for your business before you make the hire.

Our research procedures find a 30% discrepancy rate between what candidates claim and what their academic institutions confirm.

Stringent résumé verification

Some candidates are less than truthful about their employment history; it is the most common discrepancy on résumés. Our background specialists verify dates of employment, starting and ending positions and salaries, reasons for leaving and eligibility for re-hire. Where we have a supervisor’s contact details, we interview them to learn more about the applicant’s skills at work. This separates honest mistakes from inflated claims, or from attempts to hide gaps in employment that should be explained.

Three layers of reference

Primary references

From the candidate’s immediate superiors at current and previous employers, using structured questionnaires on communication, character, strengths and weaknesses.

Secondary references

Peers or subordinates identified through discreet probing during assessment interviews, for an independent, unbiased view.

Character references

From people nominated by the candidate who are respected in their community and have known the candidate for many years.
