Checkpoint 05 · Orientation

Orientation sessions

A more effective, productive workforce, and better employee retention.

This service may go unnoticed by others, but our clients graciously acknowledge it. Culture shock can hurt individual performance, and proper briefing beforehand has always softened the impact of a sudden move to a new country.

We run an orientation session for every selected candidate before they depart for their new workplace.

For example, Saudi Arabia being the home of the Islamic faith, all non-Muslim candidates are carefully acquainted with the faith, the local laws, the customs and the proper code of conduct, and strict adherence to these is stressed.

Just-in-time information

Once a candidate accepts an international assignment, much of their daily life changes, and the uncertainty worries them and their family. A thorough orientation reduces that disruption. The key is giving people the information they need, when they need it, in a format that is easy to understand and to refer back to during the move, over more than one meeting, without overloading them.

What we cover

Cultural issues

Common practices in the new home, subtle differences in the business climate, and how to recognise and respond to culture shock.

Compensation changes

Differences in cost of living, how housing is supported, provision for children’s education and other benefits, and when they are paid.

Relocation

Moving household goods, and housing and schooling options in the host location.

Intercultural communication

Understanding national and organisational cultures, strategies for communicating across them, and country-specific knowledge.

A dual purpose

  1. An aware employee is a happy employee, who performs better.
  2. The employer has the right to demand good performance from their recruiting agent.

Orientation is the last of our five checkpoints. Tell us what you need and we will put the whole process to work for you.
